Bodies come in all different shapes; here is some information to help you decide on what style of gown will flatter your own body shape.
Gowns come in number of basic cuts or styles:
Classic Ball Gown – “Cinderella’s choice”.
This is the classic big full “Scarlet O’Hara style being the most traditional of all the styles having a fitted bodice, either a dropped or natural waistline and that bellowing bell-shaped skirt.
Perfect style for those with a slim body shape, a narrow waist, as it will highlight those assets. If you are pear shaped, this style will give you a beautiful balanced look.
Princess / A-Line – The “Prom Queen’s” choice.
This is a classic and elegant style, as it will flatter all shapes and sizes with its narrow, fitted top which gradually flows out into a flared skirt from between the bust and waist into the shape of long triangle or the letter “A”. The seams running vertical from the shoulders or bust line.
Who should consider this style? Everyone! Regardless of your body shape, you will look fantastic. Because of its cut, the A-line gown like the Ball gown, hides so much. If you are pear shaped, have wide hips? Worry no longer, short stature or short waisted? The A-line instantly gives the illusion of height.
Sheath – “Show them what you have got!”
Undoubtedly the sexiest of styles to wear as a gown, slim line style with no waistline, dropping straight to the floor that hugs the body all the way down. This is perfect for those who feel very confident about their body. Great for those who are tall and slender, as it will give you a more curvaceous profile.
If you have a volumptuous curvy body, this style is also for you, as it shows off the bust, hips, waist and buttocks.
Empire Line – “The Classical Look”
What makes this style stand out from the rest is its high waist line which starts almost under the bust line, with the skirt being a slimline or flowing into a A-line profile.
A good choice if you have full hips as it tends to hide them or a small bust as this style with the high waistline will give the appearance of a fuller bust. If you are of a petite stature, the empire line gives you height.
How do I choose a colour that suits me?
When we look at skin tones we tend to be divided into two types. The ones with strong colourings such as olive skin or darker complexion, and those of light complexion or light coloured skin.
Those with a dark complexions, can wear brighter, bolder colours such as reds, orange, or peachy colours, while those of light complexions are better with softer pastel shades, blues, or silver.
Just keep in mind, that you are looking for that colour which is going to give you that instant glow and not dull your complexion.
